Community Medicine

The Department of Community Medicine has well qualified professional and supporting staff. We offer courses to students at BKMC according to PMDC and KMU guidelines.
Modern methods of teaching are being used to teach the students. These include interactive class teaching, seminars, assignments and problem based learning. The department has a well equipped museum having all types of models.
Main emphases in the department of Community Medicine are on conceptual understanding of subject which enables the Medical students to appreciate disease not just in an individual patient but to also have a holistic approach regarding the spectrum of disease in the whole of community.
Department of Community Medicine aims at improving the health awareness and making health as a valued asset for which the medical students are exposed in the field where essential health care is available to individuals and families in their own setting in an acceptable and affordable way.
The aim of the Department is to train and facilitate the students so that they can assist individuals, communities, and societies in adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Students are also trained in the basics of research by taking them to communities where they carry out a survey and collect base line data on various prevalent public health problems under the guidance of our staff.
They are also taken on visits to the places of public health importance so as to see and learn cost effective technology used for providing the health services to the communities. Documentation of these field visits in the Day Book is also mandatory for the students.
